            Nicknamed Shackleford, this autonomous car was built as part of the first electronics-based wood studio at Penland School of Crafts.

Utilizing infrared sensors below and ultrasonic distance sensors above the front fender, Shackleford can navigate a simple course defined by solid black lines. Designed and built from scratch, the rack and pinion steering system allows for a tighter, more accurate steering system.
